The School of Music is seeking scores from composition students at the University of Leeds for workshop and possible concert performance by leading new music cellist, Séverine Ballon.

Séverine has worked with and premiered music by many of the world’s leading contemporary composers, including Chaya Czernowin, Helmut Lachenmann, Liza Lim, and Rebecca Saunders, and with many of most significant new music ensembles, including Klangforum Wien, musikFabrik, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Ictus, and Elision. Her first CD of her own compositional work has met with critical acclaim.

We invite composition students at the University of Leeds to submit scores for solo cello lasting up to a maximum duration of ten minutes, to be submitted to Martin Iddon (m.iddon@leeds.ac.uk) by midday on 18 October. Scores will be selected by staff members and Séverine with the results announced by 28 October. Students at all levels are eligible for this call.

Of those submitted, up to five scores will be selected to be worked on with Séverine in two reading sessions: 1pm–4pm on Wednesday 13 November and 9am–12pm on Friday 15 November. If your score is selected, you are expected to be present during both of these sessions.

The sessions are open to all students and will take place in the Rehearsal Hall.

Up to two of the selected scores will be performed within an evening concert on Friday 15 November.
